Pro-Staff:
In the last 25 years I have blown a number of goose calls from long flute style calls to tiny short reed calls, all of which have there own “tricks” that you needed to understand to be able to blow them effectively. When Roy approached me with the FD1 the thing that I first noticed was the size and shape. The finger sized groove in the bell end of this call allows for consistent and repeatable hand and finger placement even with gloves on. Its size, being what I consider mid-size, is perfect for hunting in layout blinds. It’s not so large that it gets in the way or pokes you but big enough that it doesn’t get lost in clothing. Once I blew this call I knew there was something different about it, it may very well be the easiest blowing short reed call I have ever picked up, needing very little air to create great, full sounds. Whether I need loud attention getting hails at distant birds or subtle, soft clucks at finishing geese I found these sounds easy to create with very little effort even in the cramped confines of a layout blind.
